Installation Instructions for So-Cal Speed Shop Windshield
The SO-CAL Windshield is a brass casting, it naturally contains some porosity. To achieve an excellent chrome plated finish we strongly advise that the frame be copper plated and block sanded before it is first nickel and then chrome plated. The blocked copper will eliminate the surface irregularities and it will also allow the frame to be easily stripped in the future should the frame ever need replating. Work with your plater to achieve the desired finish.
Note: When it's time to install the glass, use spacers on each side of the glass and silicone to seal.

  • STEP 1:
Cover the area of the cowl (in front of the ridge), where the base of the windshield frame will make contact with the cowl, with masking tape.
  • STEP 2:
With some help, set the windshield (without mounting studs) onto the cowl. Snug it into position making sure that it is centrally located. Using a pencil or pen, mark around the windshield frame directly on the masking tape.
  • STEP 3:
Make a template out of cardboard to match the bottom of the frame. The piecut at the top left of the template is cut out so that the template can fit the contours of the bottom of the frame.
  • STEP 4:
Make a hole in the template to correspond with the mounting hole in the frame.
  • STEP 5:
Using the outline on the cowl, position your tempate where the frame would be and transfer the position of the hole.
  • STEP 6:
Drill the hole using a pilot drill.
  • STEP 7:
Enlarge the hole to accept the 5/16-inch frame mounting stud.
  • STEP 8:
se masking tape to locate the centers of the other holes. Cover half the hole and wrap the tape around to the top side of the frame keeping the tape square to the frame.
  • STEP 9:
Measure from the front edge of the center of the hole. Write this measurement on the tape on the top side of the frame so that you can see it when the frame is in position.

  • STEP 10:
Reinstall the frame using the two outer studs. Because of their angle, install one, position the frame on the cowl and install the other from the underside. Snug the studs down finger tight using non-locking nuts.
  • STEP 11:
Mark the front edge of the frame on the tape.
  • STEP 12:
Mark the position of the center line of the hole and note how far back the center of the hole will be from the front of the frame.
  • STEP 13:
Remove the frame and mark the position of the holes the correct distance back from the front of the frame.
  • STEP 14:
Drill the mounting holes. Install the frame as you did earlier. Install all mounting studs finger tight from the underside. Use flat washers with a locking washer and non-locking nuts.
